A teenager who connived with two men to rob women of cash and other valuables at Jongwe Corner Bar in Harare on five occasions, yesterday pleaded guilty to five counts of robbery when he appeared before a Mbare court. Prosper Isau (17), Nomore Chirambadare (22) and Ray Chirombo (23) appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reward Kwenda charged with five counts of robbery. All the three admitted to committing the offences and were remanded in custody to today for sentence.

The trio used the same tactic of ‘hiring’ the women for the night and robbing them along the way. One of the accused, Chirambadare said he stole his father’s Zimbabwe Nationa Army uniform which he wore when committing the robberies.

Facts are that on November 24 this year, Yvonne Chikunda, while drinking beer in the bar, was approached by Chirombo who proposed love to her before asking her to ‘accompany him’ for the night. Chikunda agreed and was taken to a Toyota Raum, registration number ADK 5839 where Chirambadare and Isau where hiding.

Chirombo stopped at a dark corner along St Patricks Road and Airport Road where his accomplices emerged from the car’s boot and demanded cash and valuables from Chikunda while threatening to kill her. The trio took her mobile phone worth $100 and dumped her on the road.

On the other four occasions, the trio used the same trick to rob unsuspecting women of their cash and valuables worth $300. The total value of the property stolen was $400 and nothing was recovered.
